GETTING READY FOR OUR EXHIBITION!
Ghayda' prepares a background for her self portrait.
Simin and Ameer test their stories with each other verbally in Farsi to see if they are interesting. After that they write them in English and draw them.
Our class has finished and we all enjoyed the reception at the Richmond Public Library. Merafrooz and Ghayda spoke to the audience and we posed for pictures with our artworks. Ghayda and Merafrooz brought their children. Bardia's artwork added his usual charm to the event. Merafrooz showed a wonderful collection of varied pieces - both highly personal and full of helpful advice for newcomers to Canada. Amir shared some brave and personal stories with touching skill. Ghayda produced some amazingly detailed and charming pieces detailing her new life in Canada. Thank you to the City of Richmond Engaging Artists with Community residency and Richmond Multicultural Community Services for facilitating. We all hope to have more art classes!
We're working hard to get ready for our exhibition at the Richmond Public Library. Come and meet us at the opening reception on November 6, Saturday, from 2-3:30! See you there. Merafrooz is choosing to work in pen and ink. She finds the detail had power and suits her patient nature. Ghayda' loves to work in colour! She tried oil paints for the first time this week. Ameer is using his natural drawing skills to tell a story about his family. He will ink it and colour it at home... and we can't wait to see it next week!
We started using colour this week! What a great class of students. The artwork is fabulous. We also learned how to tell a sequential story that progresses through time. So much to learn! One of our best excercises is the 20 minute challenge where we have only 20 minutes to create a whole comic. This leads to energetic drawing and a light hearted approach. This week Mehrafrooz "won" by completing her page in time - but sadly we didn't have a prize for her. The real prize, of course, is that we each made lively and energetic comics!
